Building community through every beat

Supporting wellbeing through dance and music.

An emerging community interest company in the local area of Denny, Falkirk & Cumbernauld.

Our aim is to deliver projects, classes & peer groups using dance and music to support physical and mental wellbeing for all ages.

Music & Me uses creative opportunities to build confidence, inspire creativity and bring people together.

We strive to shape meaningful & memorable experiences that generate lasting value within our community.

Our Work

Here's a little more on our past projects

The Creative Bridges project was delivered in collaboration with Central Wellbeing SCIO, Denny Nursery ELC, a local care home & elderly support group. This was funded by Kelvin Valley and Falkirk Community Led Development Fund.

The Intergenerational work brought together children, families and elderly members of the Denny community through shared creative experiences.

Music & Me delivered weekly sessions using dance, music and craft activities to explore the themes of Scotland, Friendship & Animals which provided a shared focus and mutual engagement for all.

The sessions had multisensory elements which created opportunities for connection, helping to reduce isolation, and strengthen community wellbeing.

How the Project Worked

Denny Nursery ELC class participated in 2 weekly sessions over 5 weeks working with 15 children, led by a lead dance artist.

The first session involved song, movement & rhyme activities which were linked to specific themes. The children would perform and share what they had learned at the end of the week with the elderly participants, in a collaborative session at our local church. This included joint singing, movement, multi-sensory props and a shared craft activity linked to the theme.

For example, the Scottish theme explored music such as ‘The Proclaimers, Caledonia, Flower Of Scotland & nursery classics like ‘Ye canny shove yer granny aff a bus.’ Children and adults designed and decorated shortbread as their shared craft activity.

Feedback over the 5 weeks highlighted we attained:

  • Improving physical & mental wellbeing
  • Reducing loneliness
  • Support in early language & development
  • Repetition to support memory recall
  • Building confidence and communication
  • Fostering social bonds and relationships

“It is magical to see the old and young bonding & enjoying themselves”

– Parent participant Denny ELC

Thanks to further funding through Kelvin Valley and Falkirk Community Led Development Fund, we successfully delivered a second Intergenerational project with Central Wellbeing SCIO, Denny ELC Class & Forget Me Not peer group.

Music & Me incorporated an element of live music which was at the heart of this project, aiming to continue strengthening community connection & wellbeing. This is especially important during the winter months when people can feel isolated and days become colder, darker and shorter.

The project followed a similar structure with children and adults meeting weekly and exploring Christmas music, song, rhyme and ceilidh dancing.

Live Music Element

The live music added an immersive, uplifting and joyful feeling to sessions as participants explored voice and movement to Christmas classics such as ‘Rockin Robbin, Jingle Bells & Dashing White Sergeant.’

The music sparked memories, familiarity, emotion and connection in both children & adults as they found a mutual understanding and bond over the music played.

“The live music brought back a memory of my husband, it was a nice feeling” Dorothy

As the musician for Music & Me, I found the project to be a truly rewarding & unforgettable experience.

It was clear everyone loved dancing and singing to live music by their expressions, laughter and interactions with each other.

A real demonstration of the power of music and dance in action.

      – John Thompson, Musician.

Music & Me continued part 2 of the creative bridges project working with 15 different children from Denny ELC Nursery class and wheatlands care home over 5 weeks.

rhythm, counting, syllable and rhymes

The sessions had a focus of rhythm, counting and rhymes as we explored themes such as Rabbie Burns, friendship & spring.

Our lead artist explored rhythm exercises, body percussion, instrument tapping & call and response to help support our aims.

The importance of this was highlighted in previous feedback that the intergenerational work would help support language & attainment in early years, alongside memory support & attention in elderly ages.

Statistics below highlight the positive increase in wellbeing due to participation in the creative bridges project.
